This scene wasn't as prominent to me until Season 2 aired but now whenever I watch it, I know this is where the seed was planted. Just the way he looks at her. He sees a kinship in her that he hasn't had with anyone else in their group. Attachments:

Incredibly true. It's like, he understands her need to hurt someone who hurt HER so desperately... and the pain that comes with it.

Their connection is really about damage. It's sad that they were damaged by two people that were supposed to love them. I like that Carol was finally standing up to him before Ed died when it came to Sophia. Or that we got to see it. I, honestly, think that she took beatings to keep Ed away from Sophia. I don't agree with the people that seem to think that Carol allowed Ed to sexually abuse Sophia. I think she'd have done anything and everything to protect her from that. Still, having been in a marriage with a man that beat me, I understand what people who have never witnessed it or experienced it cannot. It's not easy to just pick up and leave. And a lot of people think that you can do just that. It's crazy.
And for Daryl to be abused by his father physically and mentally/verbally by his brother, just saddens me. The poor guy didn't stand a chance. And I'm glad that he himself isn't physically violent to those that don't deserve it and can't stand up for themselves.

I had a childhood full of abuse of all sorts & didn't escape it all until I was 19, so I understand & agree. My father would use my mother & I against each other in ways like if I was defiant he threatened to kill her & he did the same in reverse to her. Leavin is never as simple as those outside of that seem to thnk it is.
I agree bout this scene of Daryl lettin Carol be the one to stop Ed from turnin bein the seed that begins his curiosity bout her. I love the "Yikes, not gonna mess with her" look he gives her, too. To me, that seed is buddin respect & yeah a sense of kinship. Love can very easily grow outta that. & the proof that she could understand his past is clear with every swing she makes.

Anyone that ever thinks that leaving is that simple is lucky they've never had to experience that kind of abuse. I have. So I know that its not.
